Shah Alam, Malaysia — Rickman Roedavan, lecturer at Telkom University and Head of Metalabs (Multimedia Engineering Technology Research Laboratory), collaborated with lecturers from Management & Science University (MSU) Malaysia in a cross-campus knowledge-sharing session focused on character coloring techniques in digital art and game design.
The collaborative workshop brought together students from both institutions to explore artistic principles, digital coloring workflows, and visual storytelling approaches used in modern character design. The session emphasized how color theory, lighting, and stylistic consistency play a crucial role in strengthening narrative identity within games, animation, and interactive media.
Strengthening Creative Exchange Between Campuses
The program was designed as a collaborative platform where students from Telkom University and MSU could share perspectives, techniques, and cultural influences in digital illustration. Through guided demonstrations and live critique sessions, participants gained hands-on experience in refining character aesthetics, enhancing visual depth, and aligning artistic decisions with gameplay and storytelling objectives.
Rickman highlighted that character coloring is not merely a technical skill but a narrative tool that shapes emotional tone, player perception, and world-building consistency. By integrating artistic sensitivity with structured design methodology, students were encouraged to see coloring as part of a broader game development ecosystem.
Bridging Art, Technology, and Global Collaboration
This cross-campus initiative reflects the growing academic partnership between Telkom University and MSU in the fields of game development, digital storytelling, and interactive multimedia. Beyond technical skills, the collaboration fostered intercultural dialogue and creative exchange, strengthening global learning networks in digital arts education.
The session concluded with collaborative project discussions, where students from both universities shared their works and received feedback from lecturers across institutions — reinforcing the value of international collaboration in shaping future creative professionals.
